This page explains how VPN Vetted researches and writes its VPN comparisons and guides, and what we do not do. We would rather tell you the limits of our method than overstate it.
Where our information comes from
Our articles are research-based. We work from primary, public sources:
- the provider’s official pricing, plan and feature pages;
- official help-center and support articles;
- privacy policies, terms of service and, where they exist, trust centers and published audit or assessment announcements;
- official blog posts and announcements (for example, about mergers or new features).
Each article lists the sources it relies on and the date we checked them. When a provider says something we cannot check ourselves, such as being the “fastest” or “best”, we attribute it to the provider (for example, “the company says…”) instead of repeating it as fact.
Hands-on testing
Unless an article clearly says otherwise, we have not tested the products hands-on. If we ever publish our own test results, the article will say what we tested, when, on which plan and device, and will show dated evidence such as screenshots. We do not publish speed scores, benchmark numbers, ratings or user testimonials that we did not actually measure or collect.
What we compare
For VPN, we focus on things you can check before you buy:
- price, including the renewal price when the provider publishes it, and the money-back guarantee;
- how many devices you can use at the same time;
- documented security features, such as the kill switch, DNS and IP leak protection and auto-connect on public Wi-Fi;
- privacy: jurisdiction, the published no-logs policy and independent audits the provider has made public;
- who owns the service, including when two brands belong to the same company group.
For each product we list downsides as well as strengths, and we explain why we put one option ahead of another for a specific use. If no product fits a use case well, we say so.
How money affects (and does not affect) our content
Some links on vpnvetted.com are affiliate links: if you buy through them, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. A higher commission is not a reason to rank a product higher, and we point out when competing brands belong to the same company group. The site also shows ads served by an ad network; advertisers do not see, review or approve our articles. Details are on our Affiliate Disclosure and Privacy Policy pages.
Keeping articles up to date
Prices, plans and features change often. Each article shows when it was last updated and when prices were checked. We recheck official pages before updating an article, and we correct mistakes when we find them or when readers point them out. Always confirm the current price and terms on the provider’s website before you buy.
