NordPass is made by Nord Security, the same group that owns NordVPN (and Surfshark, since the 2022 merger). NordPass’s own pages describe it as “developed by the security experts behind NordVPN”. We hold NordPass, 1Password and Proton Pass to the same criteria.

Verdict in 30 seconds
- Buy NordPass Premium if you want a low-cost, cross-platform password manager with breach alerts, password health checks and sharing. The 2-year Premium plan is $37.53 for the first 27 months ($1.39 a month), with a 30-day money-back guarantee.
- Skip it if you need to know the renewal price before you buy (NordPass doesn’t publish it on the pricing page), or you want a free plan that works on several devices at the same time and lets you share. NordPass Free does neither.
- Look elsewhere if you want 1Password’s long-established family sharing and Travel Mode, or Proton Pass’s free plan with unlimited devices and email aliases.
Our opinion: NordPass Premium is one of the cheapest well-known paid password managers to start with in October 2026. The weak points: an unknown renewal bill and a free tier that works mostly as a Premium trial.
What NordPass is (and why it is not a VPN)
NordPass is a password manager: an encrypted vault for logins, passkeys, credit cards, secure notes and documents, with apps that fill them in for you. It does not encrypt your internet connection or change your IP address. That is the job of a VPN such as NordVPN, which is a separate product from the same company with its own subscription.
Both live in the same Nord Account. The NordPass pricing FAQ says you can add a NordVPN bundle from your Nord Account. In the other direction, NordVPN’s pricing page lists a “cross-platform password manager” inside its Complete and Prime plans (not in Basic). If you already pay for NordVPN Complete or Prime, check your Nord Account before you buy NordPass on its own.

NordPass pricing in 2026: Free, Premium and Family
NordPass sells three personal plans. Here is what the US pricing page showed on October 31, 2026:
| Plan | 2-year plan (first 27 months) | Users |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 1 |
| Premium | $37.53 (shown as $1.39/mo) | 1 |
| Family | $67.23 (shown as $2.49/mo) | 6 |
The page notes that “all displayed prices do not include VAT”, and the features page says payments are charged in USD. The Free plan includes a 30-day Premium trial and needs no credit card.

Black Friday note (dated): the 2-year plans include “+3 extra months”. NordPass’s promotion terms (last updated October 21, 2026) say the 3 bonus months apply to 2-year Premium and Family purchases made between October 21, 2026, 09:00 CET and December 9, 2026, 09:00 CET. The bonus is delivered after the 30-day money-back period, and asking for a refund cancels it. After December 9 the 27-month figures above will likely change.
Family, per person (our arithmetic): $67.23 for 27 months split across 6 accounts is about $11.21 per person for the whole intro term. The pricing FAQ says Family gives six separate encrypted vaults, one for the owner and five to share.
Monthly vs annual: there is no monthly personal plan
The plan selector lists a 2-year plan, a 1-year plan and a “1-month plan (Business plans only)”. We quote the 2-year intro prices below; our capture of the 1-year tab still showed the 2-year totals, so we are not publishing unverified 12-month prices. On the 2-year intro, Premium ($1.39/mo shown) works out cheaper per month than Family, but it locks you in for longer and you still don’t know the renewal price.
What happens at renewal: this is the biggest gap. The pricing page shows struck-through “regular” figures on the 2-year tab ($80.73 for 27 months and $35.88 for 12 months on Premium)—those are struck list prices on that tab, not a published 1-year plan total and not labeled as the renewal price. Nord’s general terms (updated August 9, 2026) say subscriptions renew automatically and you are charged “the price valid at the time of the automatic renewal”. Before you pay, check the checkout page or the renewal email Nord sends, and set a calendar reminder.
Money-back guarantee and how to cancel
Premium and Family carry a 30-day money-back guarantee. Nord’s terms say it covers the initial purchase, not renewals. Purchases through the Apple App Store follow Apple’s refund rules, and other app stores follow their own terms.
To stop the next charge, the terms point you to Nord Account > Billing > Cancel Auto-renewal. You keep access until the end of the period you have paid for. If you started on the free Premium trial, it turns into a paid plan unless you cancel it.
Key features
What the Free plan includes, and what it leaves out
The pricing FAQ says the Free plan includes unlimited password storage, sync across devices, autosave and autofill, and multi-factor authentication (MFA) for your NordPass account. The comparison table also lists the password generator, biometrics, password import, password history and 24/7 live support on all three plans.
The same table marks these as not included on Free: Data Breach Scanner, Password Health, Email Masking, File Attachments, Documents, Secure Sharing, and “simultaneous login on multiple devices”. Emergency Access is labeled separately for Premium and Family only (see below); we could not open NordPass’s emergency-access page to verify the flow. The FAQ says Premium lets you “switch devices without logging in”. Our reading: on Free, expect to be signed in on one device at a time. Fine for one laptop; awkward if you want phone and computer both ready.
XChaCha20 encryption and multi-factor authentication
NordPass’s security page says the vault is zero-knowledge: data is encrypted on your device before it is uploaded, so the company says it cannot read it. It names XChaCha20 for encryption (the company calls itself “currently the only major password manager using XChaCha20”, which is NordPass’s own claim) and Argon2id to derive your master key. It also cites a bug bounty programme and AWS hosting in the US and EU.
For signing in, the features page lists MFA with authenticator apps, security keys and backup codes, plus biometrics on supported devices.
On audits, the features page says Cure53 examined NordPass’s “cryptographic premise, source code, background application, codebase”. It gives no report date on that page. The pricing page also lists ISO 27001, SOC 2 Type 2 and HIPAA alongside Cure53, in its business section.
Email masking and the breach scanner
Email Masking creates a random forwarding address you can give to a shop or newsletter instead of your real email. NordPass’s email-masking page says you can turn forwarding on or off and delete a mask, but masks are generated for you rather than chosen. The comparison table puts Email Masking in Premium and Family only.
The Data Breach Scanner checks whether your details appear in known breaches, and Password Health flags weak, reused and old passwords. Both are Premium and Family only. If a breach alert does fire, our what to do after a data breach checklist walks through the next steps. If you are worried about your details on people-search and broker sites, a password manager won’t help there; see our best data removal service guide.
Sharing and emergency access
Secure Sharing (Premium and Family) lets you send an item to another NordPass user; the features page says sharing can be time-limited. Family adds six separate vaults, so each person keeps their own logins private and shares only what they choose.
Emergency Access is labeled Premium and Family only in the comparison table on the pricing page. NordPass’s dedicated emergency-access page returned an error when we checked, so we can’t describe how the waiting period or approval works from that page. Treat the table label as NordPass’s own claim and check the help center before you rely on it.
One inconsistency to know about: the plan cards at the top of the pricing page mark the NordPass Authenticator (built-in 2FA codes) as “not included” on Premium and Family, while the comparison table lower down marks it as included. We are not resolving which label is current; if storing 2FA codes inside the vault matters to you, confirm at checkout or with support.
Passkeys, import and supported apps
NordPass says it can store, share and manage passkeys, the passwordless sign-ins that more sites now offer. Password import is on every plan; the FAQ mentions importing from other password managers and browsers, including CSV files.
The features page lists apps for Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS, and browser extensions for Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Opera and Safari.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Low intro price: Premium is $37.53 for the first 27 months on the 2-year plan
- Family covers 6 users with separate vaults for $67.23 for 27 months
- Breach scanner, password health and email masking in Premium
- Documented security design (zero-knowledge, XChaCha20, Argon2id) and a named Cure53 audit
- Apps for all major desktop and mobile systems, plus five browsers
- 30-day money-back guarantee and a 30-day Premium trial without a card
Cons
- Renewal price is not published on the pricing page
- Free plan: no sharing, no breach tools, one active device at a time
- No monthly plan for personal users
- The pricing page contradicts itself on the built-in Authenticator
- Owned by Nord Security, so “NordPass vs NordVPN” isn’t a choice between rival companies
- Cure53 audit has no date on the page that cites it
Who should buy NordPass
Buy NordPass if:
- You want a paid password manager for the lowest possible first bill
- You need a family plan for up to 6 people (see our best password manager for families)
- You want breach alerts and password health checks without extra apps
- You already use a Nord product and like having one account
Skip NordPass if:

- You need a documented emergency-access process today
- You prefer a provider outside the Nord Security group

NordPass alternatives
1Password (long-established, family-friendly)
1Password’s US pricing page lists Individual at $2.99 a month billed yearly (struck-through from $3.99) and Families at $4.49 a month billed yearly for 5 users (struck-through from $5.99). Both come with a 14-day free trial with no credit card. The page also advertises “an additional 25% for the first 12 months”; check that footnote at checkout. There is no free plan. 1Password highlights its Secret Key and Travel Mode. See our NordPass vs 1Password comparison.
Proton Pass (free plan with unlimited devices)
Proton Pass has a free plan with unlimited logins and unlimited devices, 10 hide-my-email aliases and passkey support. Pass Plus is $2.99 a month, billed $35.88 every 12 months, and adds unlimited aliases, a built-in 2FA authenticator, vault sharing, dark web monitoring and Emergency Access. Pass Family is $4.99 a month, billed $59.88 a year, for 6 users. All paid plans have a 30-day money-back guarantee. Read our Proton Pass review.
Bitwarden (open source)
Bitwarden is an open-source password manager with a free tier. We did not re-check its prices today, so we don’t quote them here; see Check Bitwarden price.
Our opinion: if you will pay, NordPass Premium has the lowest first bill of the three paid options above. If you want free and multi-device, Proton Pass Free is the stronger free plan on paper.
How we evaluated
We read the NordPass pricing page (2-year tab and the full comparison table; our 1-year tab capture still showed 2-year totals, so we omit a separate 1-year column), its pricing FAQ, the October 2026 promotion terms, Nord’s general terms of service, and the NordPass security, features, email-masking and personal pages. We did the same for 1Password and Proton Pass pricing. We recorded the date and time of each check in BRT. We did not run our own hands-on, speed or security tests, so nothing here claims that. Where an official page was unclear or contradicted itself, we say so instead of guessing.
FAQ
Is NordPass worth it in 2026?
For a single user or a family who want a low first bill, yes, in our opinion. Premium is $37.53 for 27 months on the 2-year plan, and Family is $67.23 for 6 users. The catch is that the renewal price isn’t published on the pricing page.
Is the NordPass free plan good enough?
For one device and basic storage, yes. Free includes unlimited passwords, autofill, the password generator and MFA. It leaves out sharing, the breach scanner, password health, email masking and simultaneous login on multiple devices.
How much does NordPass Premium cost?
On October 31, 2026, the US pricing page listed $37.53 for the first 27 months on the 2-year plan (including 3 bonus months, offer ending December 9, 2026), before VAT. There is no monthly personal plan. We omit a separate 1-year column because our 1-year tab capture still showed the 2-year totals.
NordPass vs 1Password vs Proton Pass: which is better?
NordPass has the lowest first bill. 1Password is $2.99 a month billed yearly with a 14-day trial but no free plan. Proton Pass has the strongest free plan (unlimited devices) and Pass Plus at $35.88 a year. Pick on price, free-tier needs and whether you want to avoid the Nord Security group.
Does NordPass include a VPN?
No. NordPass is a password manager only. NordVPN is a separate subscription from the same company; the NordPass FAQ says you can add a NordVPN bundle from your Nord Account.
How do I cancel NordPass?
Log in to Nord Account, open Billing and select “Cancel Auto-renewal”. You keep access until the paid period ends. For a refund, contact support within 30 days of the first purchase. App store purchases are refunded by the store.
Bottom line
NordPass Premium is a sensible, low-cost password manager in late 2026: $37.53 for 27 months, breach and password-health tools, apps everywhere, and a 30-day refund window. Know before you buy: the renewal price isn’t published, the free plan is limited, and NordPass shares an owner with NordVPN and Surfshark. Start with the 30-day Premium trial and note the renewal date.
